Marburg is a historic city situated along the picturesque meandering river Lahn . Its history dates back to the beginning of the 10th century, when the first fortifications were erected. Over the years, a settlement grew around the fortified castle, and already in the 13th century Marburg was granted city rights. Over the next centuries, the city and its greatest monuments have avoided major damages and the medieval layout of the old town has been preserved here until today.

Be sure to visit the Hessian Landgrave Castle , where you will mainly see the 13th-century Gothic castle chapel, and the 14th-century knights' hall. Currently, it also houses the Historical Museum , thanks to which you can learn about the fate of the stronghold and the region. Another important monument of the city is the Church of St. Elizabeth , the construction of which began in 1235. It is considered to be one of the oldest gothic buildings in the country. The first Protestant university was founded in Marburg in 1527 and it functions to this day as the Old University . Other worth seeing buildings are the 16th-century town hall building, the 18th-century Elnhausen Palace, and the 19th-century Spiegelslustturm lookout tower . The historic center is beautiful, with many well-kept, historic tenement houses.

For whom?

If you value the atmosphere of medieval castles and towns , then Marburg is a must. Also, drop by if you are interested in history , especially in this part of Germany. You will be able to explore it during a visit to the Historical Museum. A visit to the historic tower with a beautiful panorama of the city will be a real treat for fans of views.

Marburger Hof

Brilliant hotel located in the city center. It's close to everything, and the city is delightful, so it's worth visiting. The room was very modern, spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, it is very expensive and the hotel does not have its own parking lot, so the cost of leaving the car must be added to your stay.

Hotel Haus Müller

I highly recommend this hotel. It is located in the very center of Marburg, so we could walk everywhere in just a few minutes. The atmospherically decorated interior was very comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small, but nothing was missing. The service was nice and helpful, and the breakfasts were very tasty.

VILA VITA Rosenpark

A high-class hotel where we spent a very nice 3 days and would happily stay longer. It is located a bit off the beaten path, but the walk to the very center took only a few minutes. However, the conditions, comfort and service were at the highest level and although it was not cheap, the stay was worth the money. An excellent SPA area where you could relax.

B&B Hotel Marburg

A modern budget hotel. The biggest advantage was the location, right next to the old town. From our room we had a view straight onto the castle, which was beautifully lit at night. In my opinion, the conditions were very good and the price was very encouraging compared to other hotels in the city. The room was large and modern. There are no luxuries here, but everything is new and decent.

Elisabeth Bräu

The apartments, which, as the name suggests, are located right next to the church of St. Elizabeth, so in the very center of the city. We loved it here, and the two-room, well-furnished apartment was perfect for traveling with two children. Nice decor and good equipment, including a small but handy kitchen. The interior was bright and very clean and the hosts were very helpful. A place worth recommending.
