Alsfeld
Autorka, Travelbay
Alsfeld , a small town in the region of Hessen (Hesse), dates back to the 11th century, when it was first mentioned. Despite the passage of centuries, it has retained its medieval character. You will find out about it by looking at the picturesque old town, dominated by buildings with a half-timbered wall. While walking along the winding, narrow streets at times, you will be able to admire the buildings that were built from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.

Due to the fact that Alsfeld managed to preserve its original buildings and climate, it was included in the list of 51 model cities from 17 different countries, which was created by the European Council for the European Year of Conservation of Buildings. During your stay, be sure to check out the main square (Marktplatz), see one of the most beautiful landmarks in the old town, the Hochzeitshaus , and drop by the Regional Museum . And 16 km east of the center of Alsfeld is the imposing Burg Herzberg . The castle itself is an attraction, but it also hosts the Burg Herzberg Festival - one of the most important hippie events in Germany.
For whom?
A visit to Alsfeld will be a real treat for you if you are interested in history (with an emphasis on the history of architecture) and you like cities that are consistent in terms of appearance. You will also like it here if you like walking and places off the main tourist routes.
