Tusheti
Autorka, Travelbay
Tusheti is one of the wildest corners of Georgia , which has not been contaminated by any industry to this day. The region, thanks to its many years of isolation, has retained its individuality and is currently considered the richest in terms of culture. The landscape of Tusheti is formed by the imposing mountains of the Greater Caucasus . You can get here only in the period from June to September, thanks to the only road that was built only in 1978.

It passes the Abano Pass (2,950 m), which makes it the highest road in the entire Caucasus. There is no big city here, and the largest village - Omalo , has only a few dozen inhabitants in the summer season and only a few in the winter season. Mainly, shepherds live here, grazing their animals on the slopes of the local mountains in summer, while in winter they go down to the lower areas, to the neighboring regions. The city is dominated by the famous stone towers that are characteristic of the Caucasus. Omalo is the heart of the region and there is a small tourist base in the form of several restaurants and guest houses that allow comfortable accommodation. From here, the trails leading to the most interesting places in the region begin.
For whom?
If you want to get away from cities as far as possible , to nature that is beautiful and unspoiled by industry, then Tusheti will be the perfect choice. Seasoned mountain hikers will find many interesting hiking trails here. Adventurers will also like the amazing mountain road that leads through the pass at an altitude of almost 3,000 m above sea level.
