Kazbegi is perhaps the most popular excursion destination in all of Georgia. It owes its fame primarily to the small monastery of Cminda Sameba (Holy Trinity), which is located above the city, on a picturesque hill. The Orthodox church was probably built in the fourteenth century and today masses of the Georgian Orthodox Church are still held here.

The greatest impression on the crowds of tourists coming here is made by the views of the surrounding mountains, including the majestic Mount Kazbek , which reaches an impressive height of 5,033.8 m above sea level. The monastery itself is located at an altitude of 2,170 m above sea level and is an excellent starting point for the higher parts of the mountains. Recently, it can be easily reached by an asphalt road. The city of Kazbegi ( Stepantsminda ), situated below, offers a good range of accommodation and a number of great restaurants. It is located on the route of the legendary Georgian Military Road , which houses a number of interesting attractions.

For whom?

If you want to see the most famous sight in Georgia with your own eyes , you must visit Kazbegi and the Cminda Sameba Monastery above. Nature lovers will surely like this mountainous, picturesque area that encourages both shorter and longer trips. If you plan to get Kazbek , Kazbegi will be your base for starting the expedition.

Here are the accommodations that we can recommend with a clear conscience. We only recommend hotels that we have visited ourselves.

Rooms Hotel Kazbegi

The hotel is located slightly above the village. It offers brilliant views. The interior and the room itself made a very good impression on us. High standard equipment. Nice service, great Georgian cuisine and nothing else was needed to be happy. Another nice addition is the swimming pool, where you can relax after a day of excursions in the area.

Kazbegi View

An amazing place for people who want to feel the mountain atmosphere. It's a bit of a climb from the town center, but the view we had straight from the bed was the best we've ever seen. We could lie and stare at the beautiful nature surrounding us for hours. Everything is decorated in a very atmospheric way. Great place at a good price.

Uptown Boutique Kazbegi

A small hotel located in the very center of the town. It's close to the road to Cminda Sameba, and there are also good places to eat nearby. For me it was the perfect option for two quick overnight stays. It is run by very nice and helpful hosts. They also offer a tasty breakfast. The bathroom was shared with another room, but it was sparkling clean.

Hotel Elegant

The hotel is located a bit away from the center, but the town itself is not very beautiful anyway. In return, it offers peace, quiet and absolutely beautiful views. The hotel is clearly run by people with passion, everything was kept in great condition, and a brilliant breakfast was served every morning. On site you can also buy cold beer and locally smoked chacha at a good price.

Red Stone Guest House

A small guesthouse that may not make a very good impression from the outside, but it's quite nice inside. It is located on the road to the church and is an ideal base for wandering around the local mountains. There are no luxuries here, but it is clean, tidy and, above all, quiet, so you can have a great rest here. A very big bonus are the breakfasts, which are not only delicious, but the portions are too large.
