Carcassonne is situated on the River Aude, in the region of Occitania. It is divided into two parts: the upper one - La Cite Medieval and the lower one - La Bastide de Saint Louis. The first is a fortress city. Impregnable, one would like to say, looking at the thick walls surrounding it, cut by 52 pointed stone towers.

The city is one of the best-preserved medieval fortresses in France . In 1997 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Each year they are visited by as many as four million tourists from all over the world. Below these medieval fortified buildings, on the left bank of the Aude River, lies the lower part of the city. Somewhat forgotten by tourists, it boasts a valuable architectural heritage.

For whom?

The city mainly attracts sightseeing fans . Check it out if you are interested in the Middle Ages and medieval architecture. Carcassonne is the largest city in France, almost intact from the Middle Ages. You will experience the unusual atmosphere of that period and learn about the history of the center.

SOWELL HOTELS Les Chevaliers

A brilliant hotel with an amazing location. Not only is it on the river, but it also overlooks the walls surrounding Carcassonne. It will be a great choice if you plan to go sightseeing. My room was small, but I didn't complain. Not the cheapest, but it was worth paying extra for this urban panorama.

A very nice guesthouse, located close to the old town. It is located in a historic, 18th-century, stylish house. Very nice owner. The room was sparkling clean, the bathroom was large and also shiny. Breakfasts could be more plentiful. Anyway, I recommend it.

A modern, design hotel located very close to the old town of Carcassonne. Outdoor swimming pool, large garden. Our room was beautifully decorated - stylish furniture, accessories and color selection. Breakfasts are charged additionally.

I really enjoy staying at this guesthouse. You can walk to the very center, i.e. the historic old town, in about 5-7 minutes. It offers really good conditions at reasonable prices. The room was large, simply but neatly decorated.

B&B Les chambres d'Aimé

A perfect place to spend a few days exploring Carcassonne. The guesthouse is located directly in the historic old town. Most of the monuments are right next to it. The guesthouse has a small outdoor swimming pool. The room was small but tastefully decorated.
