Nicosia is the largest city and the capital of Cyprus. It is quite a specific place on the world map. And all because Nicosia is divided between South Cyprus (Greek) and North Cyprus (Turkish). Between the two parts there is a demilitarized zone, supervised by the United Nations. Of course, the entire city is accessible to tourists . However, you must remember that when you move from the southern to the northern part, you will have to show your passport to the local border guards.

If you're looking for a bit of the exotic then spend more time in North Nicosia . On the other hand, if you prefer a bit more order, then focus on the southern part of the city.

For whom?

For sure Nicosia is an interesting place, especially if you like sightseeing . An additional flavor is the fact that it is the only capital in the world that is divided between two countries. Although it would be more correct to say that it is divided between the state - South Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is not internationally recognized.

Royiatiko Hotel

Royiatiko Hotel is one of the larger hotels in southern Nicosia. I liked it there mainly because, although it is close to the center, it offers, for example, an outdoor swimming pool. Thanks to this, during a break from sightseeing, I could relax while swimming. The room was of a very good standard. The breakfasts were varied and tasty. With a clear conscience - I recommend it.

Centrum Hotel - City Center

My wife and I stayed overnight at the Centrum Hotel. As its name suggests, it is located in the center of Nicosia (the Greek one). Basically, we liked everything there - from the room decor, to delicious breakfasts and lunches, and the fact that everything was close to us.

Arsinoe Guesthouse

I spent two nights at the Arsinoe guesthouse. It is located in the central part of southern Nicosia. It's a charming place, with great, rustic interior design and cozy rooms. In fact, it was quite noisy there in the evenings, because there are plenty of pubs and shops around. But it didn't bother me.

TasEv Guesthouse

If you decide to stay in the northern part of Nicosia, I highly recommend staying at TasEv Guesthouse. This is an absolutely perfect guesthouse run by two lovely ladies. They speak English very well and I spent a lot of time talking to them. The room was tiny, but had everything you needed. The city's most important attractions were literally a stone's throw away.

Hotel Valide Hanim Konak

The Valide Hanim Konak Hotel is located in a beautifully restored historic building in northern Nicosia. In total, my girlfriend and I spent 3 nights there. It is an excellent base for sightseeing and a very romantic place. Hence, we can definitely recommend it to traveling couples.
