The Green Lake (Grüner See) is one of the most famous lakes in Styria. What is it famous for? Mainly from large fluctuations in the water level . In autumn and winter, it is usually about 1 meter deep or disappears practically completely. In its close vicinity, there are many hiking trails, and its shores are the destination of picnics and family outings. However, after the winter thaw, the Green Lake becomes much more abundant in water and its level rises up to 12 m!

As a result, the surrounding areas, along with some trees, are flooded. Then Grüner See begins to be crowded with divers who can admire the amazing underwater views there. Of course, the body of water owes its name to the greenish shade it takes. If you like a bit more alpine hiking, then the lake area can be the starting point for slightly longer trekking in the Hochschwab Alps.

For whom?

If you value beautiful nature and natural curiosities , be sure to visit Green Lake. Getting to it is not demanding. The walk takes only 15-20 minutes, because the terrain is quite easy.

Haus Bergblick

A great place for fans of mountains, views and beautiful nature. The guesthouse is located in the small town of Oberort, very close to the Green Lake. We spent two days there with friends. Buffet breakfast - a large selection of different products. Nice room, quite spacious and pleasantly decorated.

The Biohof Sattler is located in a very pleasant and quiet area. The mountain landscapes around us absolutely delighted us. We definitely recommend this place to people who want to escape from the crowds and want peace and quiet. This is where you can achieve it. Perfect conditions! The price is also acceptable.

Hotel Landskron

Hotel Landskron is a quite large and modern facility located in Bruck an der Mur. For us, it was a base for exploring this corner of Austria. It is close to Green Lake, Semmering and several national parks. The hotel has private, free parking. The room was decorated neatly. We chose the option with breakfast. And we recommend this option.

Sporthotel Kapfenberg

Nice hotel for good money. In fact, sport in the name did not come out of nowhere. The hotel has good facilities for active people - there is a super-equipped gym, and there is a sports stadium right next to it. It may not offer any great luxuries, but it was comfortable. Generally speaking, I didn't complain.
