If you are in Luxor, make sure you make time to visit the Valley of the Kings . It is located on the west bank of the Nile, in a dry river bed surrounded by rocky hills. This is where the pharaohs were buried , as well as their family members and high-ranking dignitaries. The Valley of the Kings is divided into an eastern and a western part.

Kings Valley

Valley of the Kings, Egypt

Tourists mainly focus on the first one, because this is where the most tombs are located. And there are about 60 of them in total. Additionally, there are 20 more unfinished burial places. During the tour you will be able to admire the beautiful decorations of the burial chambers and the picturesque landscapes of the valley itself. Of course, this place, due to its history and importance, is protected by UNESCO .

For whom?

The Valley of the Kings is one of the must-see places in Egypt , right next to the Giza pyramids and Luxor itself. Of course, this is a dream place for anyone interested in archeology , the history of the pharaohs and the history of the country itself.

Recommended accomodations

Here are the accommodations that we can recommend with a clear conscience. We only recommend hotels that we have visited ourselves.

Villa Kaslan Apartments

I have the impression that there are cheaper and more pleasant accommodations on this side of the Nile than directly in Luxor itself. I spent two nights in Villa Kaslan. It is close to both the Valley of the Kings and the Queens. The place is surrounded by a lot of greenery. There is a swimming pool in the garden. The apartment is equipped with everything you need, including a kitchenette.

Thebes Hotel

We had a very nice time at the Thebes hotel, as well as in Luxor itself and its nearby attractions. This property has a rooftop terrace with views of the surrounding area. There is also a swimming pool there. The room was cozy and nicely decorated. Most attractions require a rented car/taxi. But for us it wasn't a problem.

Malkata House

If someone would like to spend a little more time in Luxor and its surroundings, Malkata House will be a really good and reasonable choice. Both in terms of location, price and accommodation conditions. Plus this view of the mountains! Well, something wonderful. Our apartment was well-decorated and had everything we needed for a few days' stay.

New Memnon Hotel

A place with a soul that you probably won't find on the Egyptian coast. Homely, warm atmosphere. Service that treats guests almost like family. Delicious breakfasts, giving you an insight into Egyptian cuisine. Close to numerous attractions - you can get to them either on foot or by bike. We wholeheartedly recommend it!
