Alexandria (الإسكندرية) is the second largest city in Egypt. For almost a thousand years, it served as the capital of the country. Later this role was taken over by Cairo. Currently, Alexandria has a population of around 5 million and is undoubtedly one of the most cosmopolitan places in all of Egypt. It was founded by Alexander of Macedon and for centuries it was famous for its lighthouse .

Pharos was founded in the 3rd century BC and until the earthquake in the 14th century it was one of the best preserved seven wonders in the world. Fort Quaitbay was built on its ruins 100 years later. Another important monument of Alexandria is also the library . However, tourists come here not only to visit the remains of an ancient civilization. They also come here to relax on one of the beaches and to get to know the slightly more metropolitan and international face of Egypt.
